Peter Motyka

KUPU/AmeriCorps Intern

Peter first started working with Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project in 2009 as a banding volunteer where he fell in love with the birds and the forest of Maui. In January 2011, he returned as a banding volunteer and then in October 2011 became the AmeriCorps intern for Maui Forest Birds. Peter will continue to help with banding the birds but will expand his position to searching for Kiwikiu and also helping to maintain a working field crew. He hopes to do graduate research on the Maui Alauahio and is working towards this goal.

Peter hails from New Jersey but graduated with a Wildlife degree from the University of Montana in Missoula, which are two of his favorite places. He's traveled throughout the world studying birds-Montana, Arizona, Idaho, Wyoming, California, Malaysian Borneo and Ecuador.
